Goal
Kamehameha School’s Song Contest is a musical tradition celebrating the Hawaiian mele. The theme of the Song Contest pays tribute to Prince Kūhiō’s contribution to the Hawaiian Civic Club in 1918. The club was created as a gathering place for local people to regularly meet and exchange ideas.
Solution
Present a cover rich in heritage and texture with an image of Prince Kūhiō from the early twentieth century, framed by the woodcut ilima lei. The musical sheet border, warm color palette, and vintage elements created a period piece that complements the black-and-white photos. Each performer received a shirt for their participation in the hula performance.
